The Golden State also features 23 California State University campuses, the largest, the most diverse, and one of the most affordable university systems in the country. There are 437,000 students and 44,000 faculty and staff in the CSU schools.
The 75 independent, nonprofit California colleges and universities offer diverse and truly unique educational opportunities for over 240,000 students. Located throughout the state and featuring renowned institutions, such as Stanford University and the University of Southern California, this group of colleges and universities includes nearly 28,000 faculty members and over 350 degree programs. Many specialize in a particular academic focus, such as technology or liberal arts, while others cater to characteristics of the student body, such as faith or gender.
