Do you love computers, iPhones, e-readers, basically anything with a screen? Are you fascinated with understanding how these devices work, how the software you download is actually created? Do you enjoy solving problems? Then the field of Computer and Information Sciences may be the field for you.

CIS majors study how computer programs/software operate, how they are created, and how they interact with other programs. CIS majors can specialize in a range of fields from computer programming to graphics and game design.

Useful courses in high school include advanced computer classes, drafting and design, and courses that teach computer programming languages. While mathematics can be useful, it is not critical for CSL majors to be mathematics experts.

CSL majors often pick an area to specialize in and find work in those fields. These include technology companies such as Microsoft, Google and Facebook, entertainment corporations such as Nintendo, EA Sports, and Industrial Light and Magic, as well as smaller companies with software and online demands of their own.

Famous figures with CSL degrees including actor Dan Grimaldi, Jimmy Fallon, and actor Masi Oka.
