Do you love working with young people? Did you enjoy school and wish to communicate your passion for learning to others? Are you constantly excited by how much there is to learn about the world, about history, about literature, about everything? An Education major is probably for you.
Education majors study learning and how information is taught to young people. Education majors seek to understand how the human brain learns, the best methods for study various subjects, and how human beings grow to become adults. Education majors generally specialize in particular fields, choosing whether to teach elementary school or secondary school age students, as well as specializing in particular fields of knowledge, such as English, mathematics or music.
Education majors will take courses in developmental psychology, classroom management, special education, and assessment. Education majors will also take courses in their field of study (English, science, math, etc.).
Useful courses in high school include advanced English, foreign language, mathematics and American and world history. Also helpful will be any mentorships students can do with young people.
Education majors are generally employed by public school districts as elementary, middle and high school teachers. Education majors can also pursue further education to work as college professors and/or school administrators.
Famous figures with Education majors include Bill Cosby, Reba McEntire and Sheryl Crow.
