Other well known schools include Eastern Kentucky University, Western Kentucky University, Morehead State University, and Berea College - the first coeducational college in the south to admit black and white students. Transylvania University, located in Lexington, is the oldest university west of the Allegheny mountains, founded in 1780. In addition, 16 schools operate under the umbrella of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System.
