Having a hard time deciding what you love most: literature, science, music, history? Do you believe that college isn’t simply about preparing someone for a job, but expanding their mind and nourishing their soul? Do you love learning for its own sake, and wish you could build a degree that crossed multiple disciplines? A Liberal Arts Major is for you.
LA majors are not willy-nilly people who can’t make up their minds. Rather, LA majors are dedicated to a wide field of study and believe deeply that college is more than career preparation. LA majors study across the disciplines in courses such as cultural anthropology, American and European literature, history of medicine, fundamentals of economics, world religions, music history, and various sciences. The goals of LA majors differ from student to student. What is true for all LA majors is that they learn analytical reading and writing skills, as well as speaking and communication skills.
Important classes in high school include AP English, foreign language study, American and European history, humanities, biology, physics, and chemistry.
LA majors have a broad foundation and find work in a large variety of fields. Many choose to further their education and pursue degrees in law, medicine, education, or political science.
