Are you one of those people who likes to ask the BIG questions? Do you wonder about the nature of good and evil, about what choices make one moral or immoral, about whether or not computers can actually “think” like human beings? If you believe asking the right questions is more important than finding the right answers, then a Philosophy major may be just what you need.

Philosophy majors learn how to question basic assumptions about the world. They seek to go beyond easy answers and generally accepted truths. They study the nature of existence and the nature of knowledge, taking courses in the history of philosophy, logic, metaphysics, great Western thinkers, Eastern philosophy, ethics and morality, and foundations of modern thought.

Useful courses in high school include philosophy, political science, world history, AP English, government and foreign language study.

Philosophy majors find employment in a variety of fields such as law, health care and medicine, government, business and academia.

Famous figures with Philosophy majors include President Bill Clinton, Pope John Paul II and filmmaker Wes Anderson.
