No one ever called you a couch potato! You love sharing your passion for fitness with others, and you’ve found your passion is contagious. Those attributes will serve you well in physical education and coaching. You’ll teach children of all ages, all abilities, and all levels of enthusiasm (yes, even the couch potatoes.) Courses include anatomy, physiology, health education, and coaching. You’ll also spend a semester as a student teacher, having an experienced phys ed teacher as your coach.

While a bachelor’s degree is what you need to get you a job, physical education majors who also study coaching, or another related field may land better opportunities. Besides teaching, the skills learned can be applied to careers in athletic training, coaching, and scouting. Many physical education teachers also work as coaches for extra-curricular sports, usually in addition to their school positions. No joke: Comedian Bill Cosby pursued a physical education degree. He attended college on a track and field scholarship.
