Two Accidental Careers. Rob Lilwall at TEDxWanChai
Rob recounts some highlights from his two gruelling, often comical trips: a 50,000 km bicycle ride across the world ("Cycling Home From Siberia"), and a 5,000 km walk across China ("Walking Home From Mongolia"), on both of which he was raising money for the children's charity, Viva. He describes how these expeditions led him to two accidental new careers -- as a TV adventurer for National Geographic / travel writer, and as a fundraiser for his favourite charity. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations).
