The Tao of tackling tough problems: Karen Goldberg at TEDxTableMountain

In the process of facing and engaging with the issues of climate change, Karen reached a point of personal crisis in 2010. Her vitality and general sense of wellbeing had suffered; her faith in her ability to effect change had diminished; as had her ability to relate to those around her. This catharsis began a personal inquiry that now forms the basis for her Master's thesis entitled "Sustaining hope and action in the face of climate change". Karen Goldberg explores how we might tackle potentially paralyzing and emotionally overwhelming global issues such as climate change, in a way that facilitates, rather than undermines, our overall well-being, confidence and ability to effect positive change. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)Music on the intro/outro by Dominic Whitehouse.
