Universities as Entrepreneurs in Public Education: Nancy Streim at TEDxTeachersCollege

In this talk, Dr. Streim emphasizes the importance of social entrepreneurship in providing equitable access to education, creating a model for twenty-first century education that starts with innovative ideas and non-traditional concepts.Dr. Nancy Streim joined Teachers College in 2007 in the newly created position of Associate Vice President for School and Community Partnerships and Special Advisor to the Columbia University Provost. Dr. Streim leverages faculty and student research, teaching and service to enrich learning and improve outcomes in New York City public schools, especially those in the local community. Major initiatives include the development of the Teachers College Community School and the Teachers College Partnership Schools Consortium. The OSCP also provides a broad array of enrichment programs for local schools including the Harlem Schools Partnership for STEM Education, Reading/Math Buddies, Performing Arts Series and Harlem Ivy after school program.TEDxTeachersCollege 2012 explored innovations in international education at Teachers College, Columbia University, one of the leading schools of education in the world.
