What is Art?: Victor Hugo Zayas at

Painter and sculptor Victor Hugo Zayas shares a moment when an 8-year-old boy answers the question "what is art?". He highlights the value of introducing creativity at an early age to wake up children's curiosity for life. Victor Hugo Zayas (Art Center alumnus), is best known for his paintings, vigorous depictions of landscapes and cityscapes, as well as still life and figural subjects that mediate between realism and expressionism. He frequently works on a very large scale, rendering otherwise modest subjects—views of industrial buildings, arrangements of flowers—dynamic and heroic. Zayas is equally accomplished as a sculptor, his most recent retrospective exhibition "Mi Obra" (2012) has received world press coverage. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
