Providing Service Through Service: Ben Justus at TEDxVictoriaHarbour

878 million people (nearly 16% of the total world population) still live in extreme poverty, surviving on less than $1.25 per day. To make matters worse, young adults in developing countries across the globe often lack the educational and vocational opportunities they need in order to fuel their economies. When looking at the hospitality sector, the truth is that many hospitality businesses in developing countries continue to hire personnel from more developed countries, taking job opportunities away from the local community. In this talk, Ben takes a look at how hospitality's growth can be used as a means to alleviate poverty in developing countries by creating opportunities. Ben Justus visited Cambodia for the first time in 2006, where he was struck by the warmth and hospitality of the country's people. A year later, while still a student, he founded EGBOK (Everything's Gonna Be OK) Mission, an international non-profit organization alleviating poverty by empowering underprivileged young adults with the educational and vocational training needed to support themselves as hospitality professionals.
