TEDxChapmanU -- Virtual Boy -- Different Paths Mavericks Take

In this unique TEDxChapmanU talk, the two members of Virtual Boy tell the audience how they became motivated to take their classical training and "combine it with the sonic potential of electronic music." After their short and inspirational talk, Viirtual Boy performed for the audience so they could get a glimpse of what these electronic musicians are all about. Virtual Boy founders, Henry Allen and Preston Walker, met their freshman year at Chapman University's Conservatory of Music. Henry, a classical guitar virtuoso, and Preston, a musician and Chapman University Choir member, began composing together in their Music Technology class. It was there that their sonic potential revealed itself. Owing as much to Bach and Mozart as they did to Ratatat, and evoking Air as much as Daft Punk and Philip Glass, Virtual Boy developed their own signature sound that has set them apart and defined them as mavericks in today's music industry. After their debut at Los Angeles Weekly's internationally acclaimed Low End Theory event in 2010, Daddy Kev, legendary underground hip hop producer, released their first EP, "Symphony No. None", on Kev's acclaimed Alpha Pup Records. Soon after graduating they released their first full album, "Virtual Boy", via Alpha Pup Records. That was February 2011. The rest, as they say, is history.About TEDx:In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.
