TEDxSTJOHNS - Philip Riteman - A Life Beyond Hatred
Philip Riteman has been a Bedford, NS resident for 29 years. He was born in 1929 in Shereshevo in the Brest-Litovsk region of Poland. In 1941, Philip and his family were among the thousands of Jews held captive in Auschwitz. Philip was the only member of his family that survived the concentration camps. After the war, he sought refuge in Newfoundland where he married his wife, Dorothy, and had 2 sons. Philip has spoken to over 150,000 people at numerous schools, churches, community centres and universities, as well as for corporations in Nova Scotia and throughout Canada. Philip has received several honorary degrees including a Honourary Doctor of Laws from Memorial University.In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
