Dr. Charlene Elliott discusses "Food As Entertainment" at TEDxYYC 2012.Charlene Elliott, PhD is the Canada Research Chair in Food Marketing, Policy and Health at the University of Calgary. She is the Associate Professor of Communication, and holds a join appointment with the Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Kinesiology.Dr. Elliott's program of research seeks to explore the complex nature of children's food marketing, and to study what it means -- in terms of dietary habits and health -- to promote food using particular types of marketing appeals. Her works probe both the formal and informal regulatory approaches that seek to direct the consumption practices of Canadians. She has provided input and recommendations on federal and international initiatives pertaining to food, labelling and policy.In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
