Hugh Mattan grew up loving reggae music. He came to England from Jamaica, aged eight. He worked as an electronics engineer and a London bus driver before redundancy and relationship problems led to him becoming homeless and living at a St Mungo's hostel in Covent Garden for around two years. Here he began rebuilding his life, and developing his musical talent in the hostel's recording studio. Now he has an album to his name, and a single 'More Than a Memory', inspired by Nelson Mandela. Talk: More than a memoryHugh Mattan will tell the story of his life and show, from a very personal perspective, that how we can be in charge of our lifes. At crucial points of our lives we reach a forking path and Hugh will share with us how his love for music allowed him to stay focused and maintain the right perspective on life. This is a life's story, more than a memory.About TEDxIn the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.
