Amber Michelle Hill is currently a PhD student at Institute of Neurology, UCL. She is working on a translational project investigating mitochondrial dysfunction in Multiple Sclerosis using novel imaging methods. She is also an artist by hobby. Her artwork is a collection of acrylic on canvas painting and mixed media -- written works and more recently film. Amber is concerned with the combination of Art and Neuroscience. She is inspired by movement in all forms and fascinated by the virtues of courage and gratitude. When she was 24 she founded an organisation called 'Movement for Hope', with the aim of encouraging the advancement of art and science, unified by movement, to raise awareness and support for neurological conditions and reveal the true scope of multimedia art. Talk: Movement uniting cross-disciplinary work Why don't we engage in cross-disciplinary work more often, particularly art and science? How can we develop something meaningful by merging diverse fields of study? Are connections of art and science the future of innovation? Modern segregation of the arts and science has lead to the development of separated genres of revolution (or social movements) that we support. This may also contribute to a lack of confidence to branch out of our comfort zones and attempt re-merge art and science, as well as other disciplines. I believe the very thing that separates both fields can it be used to unify them. About TEDx In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
