P. K. Hormis Tharakan, an IPS officer of the Kerala cadre (1968 batch) was chief of the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW), India's external intelligence agency. Currently, he is a Member of the National Security Advisory Board, Member of the Advisory Committee of the Centre for Strategic Initiatives being set up by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and Chief Advisor (Strategic Studies), BrahMos Aerospace. Apart from being upright and sober, he is an effective leader. He studies and writes on issues of strategic interest.Being the chief of Research and Analysis Wing, focused on the prime objective of R&AW- the intelligence assessment from both overt and covert information sources. R&AW stands for competent national intelligence accumulation and is an integral part of national security.About TEDxIn the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.
