Strategist Dan Carol is currently the Director of Multi-State Initiatives for Governor John Kitzhaber of Oregon. This first-in-nation position was created to advance job creation, clean energy and infrastructure through innovative partnerships on the west coast and nationally.Prior to joining the Governor's office, Mr. Carol was Senior Fellow for Innovation and Clean Economy at the New Policy Institute in Washington, D.C., where he focused on new strategies to accelerate community-based job creation and authored The Acceleration Agenda (2010). In 2008, as Content & Issues Director for the Obama for President Campaign, Carol guided the launches of Obama's NewEnergyforAmerica.com plan and the 2008 Democratic Platform, Listening to America, which engaged thousands of Americans in sharing their ideas for change.In response to September 11th, Carol spearheaded the creation of The Apollo Alliance, an early effort to promote a "moon mission" national commitment to energy independence and unite Americans of all political stripes in a common purpose.Before that, Carol served as an environmental and energy budget analyst at the U.S. Congressional Budget Office, a Presidential Management Fellow, and Staff Director for the 1992 Democratic platform, working in Little Rock on the Clinton-Gore debate team. He also launched an Internet engagement and cause campaign company, CTSG, which built the first ever web site for a US Senate candidate in 1994 and was sold in 2004.A founding contributor to the Huffington Post, his writings and commentary have been featured in The Wall Street Journal, C-Span, CNN and The Boston Review. He has also served as adjunct faculty of the University of Oregon's School of Planning, Public Policy, and Management, where he originated new classes in citizen engagement and clean energy.Carol holds an MRP in Regional Planning from the University of North Carolina (1983), a BA in Philosophy from the University of Michigan Honors College (1980) and a diploma from Lower Merion's bicentennial class of 1976. He is married (luckily) to Joyce Berman, and the father of two fantastic children, Robin and Jack.In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.
