TEDxLMSD - Sarah Lowe - It Takes a School to Raise a Village

Sarah Lowe (LMHS '02) currently serves as Director of Development for a nonprofit she co-founded while in college, Kujali International ( Kujali partners with local community leaders to help establish free secondary boarding schools for orphaned and vulnerable children in East Africa.Lowe graduated from the University of Florida in 2006 as a distinguished scholar-athlete with a dual degree in Political Science and Spanish. A Fulbright Scholar, Sarah spent one year in Costa Rica studying the impact of the Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) on Costa Rica. After several years of work in the private sector living in southern California, Sarah moved to the United Kingdom and is currently earning her M.Phil in Development Studies at the University of Oxford.Sarah was the 2006 Arthur Ashe Female Sports Scholar of the Year and is a member of the University of Florida Hall of Fame. She currently serves as a member of the Knight Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics.In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
