TEDxCincy - Effie Gutmark, Sid Khosla - Using Rocket Science To Restore Voices

Dr. Gutmark joined the University of Cincinnati (UC) in 2000 as the Ohio Eminent Scholar Chaired Professor of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics. In 2008 his title was upgraded to Distinguished Research Professor. In 2009 he was appointed an Affiliated Professor of Mechanics at the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden. Previous to that he was a chaired Professor of Mechanical Engineering and the Chairman of the Mechanical Engineering Department at Louisiana State University from 1995 where he worked on combustion and aerodynamics control. Prior to joining the faculty at LSU, he worked as a Senior Research Scientist at the Research Department of the Naval Air Warfare Center in California where he initiated a national program on flow and combustion control. Dr. Khosla specializes in treating voice and swallowing disorders. He is nationally known for his expertise in vocal cord and airway reconstruction. Dr. Khosla is a leader in the research field pioneering new techniques to treat voice and swallowing disorders. He is a NIH award recipient in the area of phonation and vocal cord paralysis. Dr. Khosla is widely published and received numerous grants from the National Institutes of Health and the University of Cincinnati Research Council. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
