TEDxGlobalLearningSchool - Don Proffit - Failing First: An Artist's Approach to Creativity

Taking inspiration from a quote by John Maxwell -- Fail early, fail often; and fail forward -- Don Proffit explores the artist's journey from inspiration to final work and what happens along the way. Don shows how failure is an integral and necessary part of the creative process. Don Proffit's view on the isolation of the outsider and the powerful role the arts and ethics play in defining inclusive communities empowers his ability to promote atmospheres of acceptance and openness in the schools and organizations in which he works. As a professional musician, Don has served as accompanist to Martha Graham and Alvin Ailey (back in the day). An infrequent composer and painter, Don realizes the social and therapeutic benefit of the arts for all of us. He believes that meaningful and life-changing engagement is always possible when you establish a safe and honest environment for conversation and collaboration.
