TEDxLSE - Barbara Hou - Transforming Women's Leadership in Asia Through Education

Barbara Hou is President and founding member of the Asian Women's Leadership University (AWLU) Project, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with the mission of establishing a global women's leadership university for women based in Asia. She is a graduate of Smith College and the University of Michigan Law School and has combined a career in corporate law practice and international development. As a lawyer in the Hong Kong offices of Allen & Overy LLP and Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP, she represented investment banks on debt and equity capital raisings in emerging market economies in Asia. She also has international development experience in South Africa (South African Human Rights Commission), Uganda (Fellowship for Reconciliation), Burma (Growing Together Myanmar) and Bangladesh (Asian University for Women). The University is targeted to enroll the first 100 students representing 10-15 countries by September 2015.About TEDx, x = independently organized event: In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
