Dr. Revathi Raj scripted medical history by successfully conducting a unrelated bone marrow transplant in an eight-year-old Ugandan boy using the cord blood cells from an American donor, at a fraction of what the procedure would cost internationally.A senior consultant for Paediatric Haematology at the Apollo Hospital, Dr. Revathi helped set up the Thalassaemia Welfare Association in Voluntary Health Services, Chennai. The centre helps care for over 200 patients with thalassaemia major who are given free blood transfusion, expert consultation and iron chelation therapy. For a social cause, she aims on working towards involving more public-private partnership to help improve access to care for children from poor socio-economic background
