Sophie Altchek is a senior at Horace Mann School. Between the months of October 2009 and January 2010 she suffered four concussions playing soccer. She was aspiring to play soccer in college and was forced to temporarily quit all physical activity and repeat her junior year. Now no longer able to play contact sports, Sophie has found a new passion in concussion related research, developments and news. For her independent study seminar class she is working on multiple projects. She is interning for Dr. Jamshid Ghajar at the Brain Trauma Foundation in New York City, as well as trying to spread awareness through talks and blog. Sophie is also conducting a statistical study to try to find out how much is known about concussions.
