TEDxSomerville: Daniel Hadley - Can Your City Make You Happy?

In 2011, Somerville became the first community in the United States to ask its residents about happiness in a citywide survey. The ultimate goal was ambitious: collect data on wellbeing and use it to create policies that would boost happiness. But is that possible? Can a city really make its residents happier in a meaningful, lasting way? Daniel began working for the City of Somerville the day after graduating from Harvard University, where he earned a masters degree in both urban planning and theology. His eclectic interests seemed to come together for the first time while working on Somerville's happiness survey. He is currently an analyst in the SomerStat department, an initiative of Somerville Mayor Joe Curtatone that incorporates data of all kinds into the city's policy decisions.
