TEDxUofC 'Building a Legacy' - Zachary Wadsworth

Zachary Wadsworth is a prizewinning composer whose works have been hailed as "astonishingly confident" and "mesmerizing" (News & Observer). A winner of the 2011 King James Bible Composition Awards, his choral anthem Out of the South Cometh the Whirlwind was performed last November by the choir of Westminster Abbey in the presence of the Queen. His song cycle, Pictures of the Floating World, was premiered at the Lincoln Center and his opera, Venus and Adonis, has been staged by five different companies since its composition in 2004.Wadsworth's works have been broadcast internationally on National Public Radio's Performance Today, BBC Radio 3's The Choir, PRI's Christmas Daybreak, and CBC Radio's The Story from Here. He is published by Novello, G. Schirmer, E.C. Schirmer, PRB Productions, and Alliance Music Publications, and his music has been recorded on commercial releases from Albany and Gothic Records. His compositions have been awarded a Charles Ives Scholarship from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, three ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composers Awards, and first prizes in competitions sponsored by ASCAP, the Lotte Lehmann Foundation, the MTNA, the Pacific Chorale, the Boston Choral Ensemble, Chamber Music Rochester, the Esoterics, and Long Leaf Opera. An energetic collaborator with soloists and ensembles alike, Wadsworth has received notable performances by the choir of Westminster Abbey, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Atlanta Philharmonic Orchestra, the Ithaca Community Orchestra, the Yale Philharmonia, Long Leaf Opera, Boston Metro Opera, the Washington National Opera chorus, the Richmond Symphony Chorus, the Tokyo Cantat, The Crossing, the Pacific Chorale, the Yale Schola Cantorum, the Boston Choral Ensemble, the Young New Yorkers' Chorus, Quaver, Flying Forms, and many others.Wadsworth is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music (BM, 2005), Yale University (MM, 2007), and Cornell University (DMA, 2011).
