TEDxDuke - Jacob Tobia - What I learned from Occupy Duke

What I learned from Occupy DukeA native of Raleigh, North Carolina, Jacob Tobia is a sophomore at Duke pursuing a Program II Degree in Human Rights Advocacy and Leadership. When he's not occupying Duke, Jacob occupies himself advocating for the rights of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community at Duke and in North Carolina. In his time at Duke, he has served as the Director of LGBTQ Policy and Affairs for Duke Student Government, the President and Founder of Duke Students for Gender Neutrality, the Outreach Chair of Blue Devils United and the Executive Chair of Duke Together Against Constitutional Discrimination, a coalition of Duke community members working against NC Amendment One. In addition to advocacy work, Jacob is an avid performer, most recently appearing in the Me Too Monologues and in his first professional show, Edith Can Shoot Things and Hit Them at Manbites Dog Theatre in Durham. This upcoming summer, Jacob will be living and working in South Africa with the Lesbian and Gay Equality Project in Johannesburg and Sonke Gender Justice Network in Cape Town. ?About TEDx:In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.
