Kathleen O'Brien, LEED AP and CSBA, is a nationally recognized leader in the field of sustainability and has been a writer, educator, strategic planner and project consultant for nearly 30 years. Sept.13, 2011, was named Kathleen O'Brien Day and Gov. Chris Gregoire and Congressman Jay Inslee recognized her lifetime achievements as a champion of green building. Twenty years ago, O'Brien founded O'Brien & Company, the first green building consultancy in the Northwest and was instrumental in the development of green building programs, policies and innovative demonstration projects throughout the state and beyond in the residential and nonresidential sectors. She recently launched the Emerge Leadership Project, designed to develop and support leaders working in building to create a more sustainable society.About TEDx, x = independently organized eventIn the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
