Tacoma's Beyond Waste Transformation: Kristin Lynett at TEDxTacoma

Kristin Lynett was hired as the City's first Sustainability Manager in 2009. In this position, she seeks to integrate sustainability and environmental values into City plans, programs and policies. To this end, she has worked with the Sustainable Tacoma Commission and other stakeholders to develop policies on municipal green buildings, sustainable purchasing and life cycle thinking, and a healthy and sustainable food system. She works with schools, non-profits and businesses to promote sustainable practices through development of a small grant program, yearly sustainability expo, and the Environmental Business Alliance. She staffs an internal City Green Team that has set ambitious resource reduction goals and is implementing them through such activities as an energy service performance contract, electric fleet vehicle purchases, and paper reduction programs. Kristin received a Bachelor's in Environmental Science from Willamette University and a Master's in Environmental Studies from Evergreen State College. She also is LEED AP and a Certified Sustainable Building Advisor.About TEDx, x = independently organized eventIn the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.
