Empowering Communities Protects the Great Lakes: Richard VanderVeen at TEDxMarquette

Rich VanderVeen Developed the Great Lakes' first privately financed wind power project in Mackinaw City in 2001. More than 20 million kWh of new, zero-emissions power has been generated and sold to Michigan customers. Founded Michigan largest wind farm in Gratiot County. The award-winning 212.8 MW Project erected 133 turbines between last August and February 2012 and will serve 55,000 homes. Founded the John D. Voelker Foundation in 1989, providing Native American Scholarships and the national Robert Traver Fly Fishing Writing Award. His daughter, Betsy, her husband, Daniel, and his grandson, Eero Marshall Rutz live in Marquette.
