Loving Fort McMurray: Julie Funk at TEDxFortMcMurray
Julie Funk | Loving Fort McMurray | Julie Funk is a dancer, actor, choreographer, director and yoga teacher who has traveled the world, but still thinks of Fort McMurray as home. She left her home to study dance in Edmonton before moving to New York to train and perform for nine years. Since then she has traveled and worked around the world, but continues to return to the city of her childhood. Whether through her art or in her physical practice, Julie Funk is fascinated by all aspects of movement, freedom, self-discovery and expression. "The velocity and heartbeat found in the pavement of New York city is the same as the pulse of the pavement in Fort McMurray" -- both are cities of adventure, of discovery and of the future. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
