Community Currencies and the Brixton Pound: Simon Woolf at TEDxLeeds

His interest in complementary currencies was sparked by seeing the Lewes Pound in action, during late 2008. When two economists in Brixton decided to start a similar scheme, he soon became involved as a volunteer. Simon became a non-executive director of the Brixton Pound in 2010, and then managing director in January 2012.Simon is also the Chief Technical Officer at QOIN, a Netherlands-based foundation which is one of the leaders in implementing complementary currency schemes, and specifically the technology to enable them. During 2012, QOIN will continue to work with the Brixton Pound, along with many other projects including The Bristol Pound and two largescale time-based currencies in the Netherlands.--In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
