Yet a number of individuals have become active supporters of charitable causes thanks to playing video games. What does this mean? Can video games make an impact on real world problems? In this discussion, Zach Wigal of Gamers Outreach Foundation will share how video game enthusiasts are combining their passion for gaming with charitable action to create an entirely new field of philanthropy that is engaging individuals in the philanthropic process like never before.Zach Wigal is a digitally minded entrepreneur with a passion for the interactive entertainment industry. At the age of 17, Wigal founded Gamers Outreach Foundation, a 501?(3) non-profit organization that facilitates services which use video games in ways that improve the lives of others. Wigal also serves as the Charity Chapter President within the Entertainment Consumers Association, the non-profit membership organization that represents game consumers in the US & Canada. He is a four time recipient of the Microsoft Most Valuable Professional Award, and is currently pursuing a degree in marketing at Eastern Michigan University.In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.
