TEDxSaintGeorgesSchool - Kitara McClure - Ideas, Passion, and Action

Kitara McClure hails from Chicago's inner city where she quickly recognized the impact of injustice and privilege. Her name in Swahili, Proud Sword, was a great influence on her life as evidenced by her many accomplishments despite the challenges she faced. As a former gang leader, McClure survived being stabbed and having her hand broken by a bat. With the motivation to not just survive, but to excel, McClure went on to earn her Bachelor's degree in Workforce Development and a Master's degree in Organizational Leadership and Management. McClure currently serves as the Director of Multicultural Student Services for Spokane Community College. She continues to inspire others through motivational speaking and leadership development programs she created and leads with high school and college students. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
