TEDxBled - Maris Slezins - Giving the Chance of Healthy Lifestyle for Street Children

TEDxBled took place on 18 March 2012 in Bled, Slovenia under the theme of Inspire.Change.ImpactMaris Slezins, Latvia - "Giving the chance of healthy lifestyle for street children."Social entrepreneur and athlete, Maris ?lezin? challenges the way on how juveniles spend their free time. He created a platform in Latvia that gives juveniles, especially form social risks groups, a socially friendly sport called street workout where everyone can take part and become physically fit.In his young age Maris was one of the street children, despite he had high results in different kinds of sports even on national level. He grew up in environment where juveniles used to do activities on the boundaries of law just to entertain themselves. Since sport and few inspiring people helped Maris to regain faith in his life, he started to look for chance's on how to give back or repay his debt by inspiring others, to create system where everyone can take part.In 2009 he founded Street workout organisation in Latvia that in three years time grew up from few members to almost 17 000 athletes all around the Latvia. In 2011 he was appointed as EU Goodwill Ambassador and in the same year was appointed as the "Latvian Pride".In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
