O semin?rio est? focado em Thessaloniki, Gr?cia e pretende usar a resposta de m?dia digital como um fator de re-identifica??o cultural e de renova??o econ?mica desta cidade hist?rica e porto. Eric Baczuk is Master in Design Studies student at Harvard's Graduate School of Design, specializing in Sustainable Design and Economic Development. His interests include bringing sustainability to the marketplace and empowering communities through economic organization. Before attending graduate school, Eric worked in the architectural practice of Foster+Partners in London, on a number of large-scale civic, cultural and commercial projects around the world. He received his undergraduate degree in Environmental Science from the University of Calgary and a Masters in Architecture from Dalhousie University in Halifax. His award-winning MArch design thesis centered on the development of renewable energy infrastructure in Eastern Canada, and explored the architectural program and typology for tidal in-stream energy conversion facilities in the Bay of Fundy. Currently, Eric is a Research Fellow and Co-Instructor in the SENSEable City Lab at MIT. His work, in partnership with General Electric, is focused on the development of a rapidly deployable, urban-scale sensor network, targeted at improving access to water infrastructure in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This semester, he is also co-instructing a course on pervasive computing in the urban environment at MIT's Department of Urban Studies and Planning, entitled 11.320 Digital City design workshop. The workshop is focused on Thessaloniki, Greece and aims to employ responsive digital media as a driver for cultural re-identification and economic renewal in this historic, port city. --- In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
