TEDxConstitutionDrive 2012 - Duleesha Kulasooriya - "Identity as a Barrier to Growth"

Our 2012 theme was "Identity" This year we explored Identity in a way that went beyond the standard gender/race/age lines. We see Identity as the non-genetic DNA of us, one that is co-created by our environments and ourselves, and which drives in a powerful way our choices, our relationships and our lives. Speakers as diverse as Eric Drooker, New Yorker artist, to Beau Lewis, producer of the American Hipster series, to John Murray, scientist at the SRI International labs, came to share their perspectives on Identity. Duleesha Kulasooriya, head of research at the big-thinking Center for the Edge Duleesha leads research at the Center for the Edge -- a Silicon Valley-based think tank exploring the edges of business and technology. Over the past few years the Center has explored how the world is changing in very dramatic ways as a result of ever evolving digital infrastructure and liberalizing public policy, and its implications to us as individuals and institutions. Duleesha led the team to design and develop the Shift Index, a new set of metrics to supplement current economic indicators in assessing the rate of change in the world around us. He's also led research on the use of Social Software to drive business performance, pathways to moving from static to dynamic performance ecosystems, and rethinking the role of firm and individuals in the form of institutional innovation. Duleesha was born and grew up in Sri Lanka and now lives in San Francisco with his Singaporean wife, rambunctious two year-old and two cats.
