TEDxAshokaU - Liz Dwyer - Education: Crisis or Victory?

Liz Dwyer has over fifteen years experience in the field of education. Her classroom background includes teaching third and fourth graders at a private boarding school in Guangzhou, China, as well as third-graders in Compton, California. Dwyer later joined Teach For America's Los Angeles staff, where she spent six years serving as a program director and supervising first and second-year K-12 teachers in the Compton, Lynwood and Los Angeles Unified school districts. Dwyer has written extensively on the topics of parenting and the connection between race and education, and her work has appeared in Good Housekeeping and numerous online publications, including Love Isn't Enough, Divine Caroline and the Los Angeles Moms Blog. She owns her own site, Los Angelista, and was recently named one of Los Angeles' hottest bloggers of the moment by Angeleno Magazine. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
