Gavin Slade discusses the decline of organized crime in Georgia, and learns lessons about the global fight against criminal organizations.Gavin Slade, PhD, researches criminological themes with a particular interest in organized crime, prisons and penal policy, and policing. The focus for his work is the post Soviet space, where he has spent around seven years living and working. His book, Mafia in Transition: Criminal Resilience and Adaptation in Post-Soviet Georgia, will be published by Oxford University Press in 2013.In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
