TEDxMargalla - Atif Mumtaz - On Giving Back to the Community

Ahmad Atif Mumtaz has many years of experience as a technology specialist and as a social entrepreneur. He is currently active in the social sector and is deploying an ambitious tele-healthcare solution for rural Pakistan in collaboration with partners, whereby rural clinicians can share and seek advice from specialists in the cities using ICT. The solution, dubbed as "Jaroka Tele-Healthcare", is an innovative healthcare project that uses the power of mobile phones, and implemented with the support of Lady Health Workers (LHW) is now moving from pilot phase into full deployment. In the first phase, the project has treated over 20,000 patients in rural Mardan since August 2008. The project won the mBillionth award for being the best mHealth project from all around the region of Asia. About TEDx In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
