TEDxBirmingham - Lee Meadows - Changing the World of Teaching

Lee Meadows thinks change is a a good thing. He's changed his own teaching from straight lecture to a classroom where students work in small groups, answer big questions, and tap today's technology. He's working with other education leaders across Alabama to get hands-on, inquiry-based science in every K-12 classroom. He's helped UAB's medical school recently make their transition to an entirely new curriculum based on med students studying human body systems. He's helping science teachers across the country in such places as Orlando, FL, Tacoma, WA, and Savannah, TN, implement the inquiry-based science, the cutting edge today of science teaching. His book, The Missing Link: An Inquiry Approach for Teaching All Students about Evolution, helps science teachers change evolution from a topic that puts up walls to one that engages kids afraid to learn about evolution. As a professor in UAB's School of Education and College of Arts and Sciences, as a husband and a dad, and as an adopted Alabamian and life-long Southerner, he sees great hope for changes that can make our schools vibrant places bringing hope to children's lives.
