[email protected] - Tracey Read - How are our conveniences adding to the ocean's waste?

During the event, DB Green is an environmental group based in Hong Kong's Discovery Bay. Tracy Read is a key member of the group, and here shares some alarming facts about the amount of waste, especially plastic and Styrofoam, that can be found floating in the world's oceans, and presents concerning pictures of beaches in Hong Kong covered in rubbish washed up from local seas. Much of this waste, she believes, stems from society's dependence upon single-use items such as straws and plastic bottles. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
