TEDxHarvardLaw - DavidLudwig - Diet Technology and Chronic Disease

The causes of obesity are multifactorial, but one development has contributed inordinately: the replacement of whole foods by ultra-processed products. Promoted under the auspices of convenience, ultra-processed products have driven profits for commodity manufacturers and the fast food/snack food industry. However, over the long-term, chronic diseases associated with an excessively processed diet will have enormous cost in terms of human suffering and economic losses. Ultimately, the obesity epidemic can be viewed as a disease of technology with a simple, but politically difficult solution. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
