TEDxNewy 2011 - Julie Baird - Turning the noun museum into a verb of action, emotion and belonging.

Julie Baird began working in museums in the early 1990s by curating an exhibition on the History of Footwear in a small local government museum while sporting green hair, Dr Martin boots and tattoos. Julie's career focus has been to spread knowledge about history and museums in unusual or popularist forums, working with communities as broad as schools, embroidery guilds and pays TV audiences to high security female prisoners, bikies named Skulls and the band The Hard Ons.Julie arrived at the Newcastle Regional Museum as Curator in 2002 from the National Motor Museum in South Australia. She was part of the small team who recently moved and redeveloped the museum and is now the Deputy Director. Julie and the 55,000 visitors, who have visited since August 4th 2011, are more than a little excited about the potential of the new Newcastle Museum.www.tedxnewy.comAbout TEDx, x = independently organized eventIn the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.
