TEDxNewy 2011 - Alli Hammett -- Let's make stroke 'sexy'

Alli describes herself as a social entrepreneur, community advocate and equality activist. However there is so much more to this lady than meets the eye. As a stroke survivor, Alli has not let her physical disabilities prevent her from achieving her goals. Alli is passionate about arts & culture and building social and economic resilience for local communities seeing her work internationally, from winning the equivalent of AU$1 million and a BBC television series for a Scottish village as a business mentor, to facilitating community development programs in the poverty stricken areas of Wales. Alli is currently Chairperson of Octapod, an arts and cultural organisation, and has recently been appointed to the National Stroke Foundation, first Stroke Consumer Network and nominated as a finalist in the Essential Energy Regional Service Award for NSW & ACT.www.tedxnewy.comAbout TEDx, x = independently organized eventIn the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.
