TEDxPittsburgh - Kiron Skinner - The Polio Vaccine, the GI Bill, and National Security

Kiron is Associate Professor of International Relations and Politics and Director of the Center for International Relations and Politics at Carnegie Mellon University. She is a Research Fellow at the Hoover Institution and a member of the Shultz-Stephenson Task Force on Energy Policy, the U.S. Defense Department's Defense Policy Board, the Pacific Council on International Policy, and the Council on Foreign Relations. She serves on the board of the Atlantic Council of the United States, has coauthored several books with Serhiy Kudelia, Bruce Bueno de Mesquita, and Condoleezza Rice, and is a frequent contributor to CNN.com, National Review Online, the New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal. Kiron holds undergraduate degrees from Spellman College and Sacramento City College and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Political Science and International Relations from Harvard University. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
