The Importance of Preserving New York City Narratives.Tom Mellins, Parent, is an exhibition curator and author. Among the exhibitions Mr. Mellins has organized for the Museum of the City of New York are "New York's Moynihan," "Campaigning for President: New York and the American Election" and "Only in New York: Photographs from Look Magazine." Additionally, Mr. Mellins curated "Celebrating 100 Years" at the New York Public Library. Mr. Mellins is the co-author, with Robert A.M. Stern and others, of New York 1880, New York 1930, which was nominated for a National Book Award, and New York 1960. In 1999 he was designated a Centennial Historian of New York City by Mayor Rudolph Giuliani.In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independentlyorganized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
