With Fewer Typewriters and Just as Many Veins.Kathryn Jagai, HS '12, has been an aspiring novelist since she was nine. She has won Scholastic Awards for Poetry and Sci-Fi/Fantasy. She was invited to attend a workshop hosted at the White House as well as the White House Poetry Jam in 2011, and has been a member of the Girls Write Now program for three years. "My city is one of limitless inspiration: hipsters and starving artists, graffiti splashing across fresh concrete and crumbling brick alike. Here, we are all harbingersof potential talent. New York defines her children; her artists define her through their work. Hats off to Fitzgerald and Keats; I'm simply a writer and artist hoping to do justice to those who have come before me."In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people togetherto share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussionand connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independentlyorganized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDxevents are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
