A Call to Action: Transforming All of Our Futures through a Commitment to Criminal Justice Reform.Dana Kaplan, HS '97, is the Executive Director of the Juvenile Justice Project of Louisiana (JJPL), a state-wide legal andadvocacy organization dedicated to the reform of Louisiana's juvenile justice system. Previously, Dana was a SorosJustice Fellow at the Center for Constitutional Rights. At CCR, Ms. Kaplan worked with community groups andgovernment on developing alternatives to detention and downsizing local jails. She currently serves on the AdvisoryCouncil for the National Campaign for the Fair Sentencing of Youth, an effort to end the practice of sentencing childrento life without parole sentences nationwide, and FREE, a New York City based organization of individuals with loved onesin prison organizing for criminal justice reform.In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people togetherto share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussionand connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independentlyorganized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDxevents are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
